Do you ensure animal welfare on your farms?

For Arla dairy farmers, animal welfare and sustainable farming go hand in hand. Dairy farming takes dedication and a real passion for milk and Arla farmers look after their milk cows according to Arla's quality and welfare routine , Arlagården, which makes sure that we keep our dairy cows healthy, comfortable and well fed at all times. Healthy cows are happy cows and happy cows produce more milk, and milk of a higher quality.

Do you use hormones in your cattle/milk?

No. In line with European standards, Arla farmers do not give hormones to their cows to increase the amount of milk they produce. The cows do fine on their own, and when they're well fed and looked after, they will produce 25-30 litres of high quality, nutritious milk every day.

Do you use antibiotics in your cattle/milk?

No. Arla Organic Milk is free from antibtiotics. If a cow gets sick, sometimes it has to be treated with antibiotics. When this happens, the cow's milk is separated and is not included in the milk that goes to the dairy. The vet will decide when the treatment is complete. We always document how many antibiotics are given and to which cow.

Is organic milk more expensive than regular milk?

Our goal is to make organic products accessible to all. In order to do that they must be affordable and the product quality meets the modern consumer demands. Organic milk is more expensive because it costs the farmer more to produce it, and it takes around two years to convert a conventional farm to an organic farm.The main reasons are that non-GM feed is more expensive, fewer cows can be farmed per hectacre and the volume of milk that each organic cow produces is at a lower level.

Is organic farming better for the environment?

In terms of environmental impact of the lifecycle of organic products and conventional products, the two can be very similar. However, organic production has to follow a set of rules regualting the production. Organic farming can be viewed as a quality assurance scheme pertaining to specified parameters: GM feed; pesticide; mandatory grazing; and additives or artificial substances used.

The UHT process allows Arla to transport the milk from Denmark to the UAE, without it spoiling, as it ensures a longer shelf-life, without any artificial preservatives

What does UHT mean?

During production of UHT milk (Ultra High Temperature) the milk is heated above 135 degrees centigrade for a minimum of one second. The process destroys bacteria and microorganisms that could otherwise develop in the milk.

Does UHT affect the nutritional content of the milk?

No. Arla Organic Milk has been treated in such a way that it maintains all the natural goodness, vitamins and minerals of fresh cow’s milk.

What's the difference between organic and conventional milk?

Organic milk comes from cows that have been raised according to organic farming methods. The cows are fed on a 100% organic diet. And organic farming practices prohibit the use of hormones, antibiotics, or artificial drugs in animal feed for the purpose of stimulating growth. This means that our organic milk is 100% naturally pure.

What's the difference between organic farming and non-organic farming?

There are several differences between organic and conventional farming. The key differences are that organic farming uses natural fertilisers instead of chemical fertilisers often used in conventional farming. Organic farming practices also prohibit the use of hormones, antibiotics or other animal drugs in animal feed for the purposes of stimulating growth. Choosing Arla Organic Milk guarantees wildlife friendly farming without weed killers or artificial fertilisers and additional standards of sustainability. However, Arla does not use hormones or antibiotics in the farming methods for any of its conventional milk either.

Why does organic milk cost more?

Organic milk is more expensive because it costs the farmer more to produce it. Fewer cows can be farmed per hectare of organic land and the volume of milk each organic cow produces is at a lower, more natural, level. This means the farmer has to charge more for the milk to cover his costs. Also, Arla pays its organic farmers a price premium in addition to the farm gate price.

How many hormone/antibiotic injections do you give you your cows per day?

Is your milk genetically modified in any way?

Arla Organic Milk is not genetically modified in any way. It is 100% pure organic milk with no added preservatives or hormones. Our organic milk comes from free-range cows who eat a 100% organic diet.

Do you add vitamins?

Arla Organic full fat milk is enriched with vitamin D, and the low fat milks with vitamins A & D, as per the requirements by regional authorities, based on the identification of predominant vitamin deficiencies in the region.

Does the milk have trans fats?

Most dairy products do contain a very small amount of naturally-occurring trans-fat. Arla Organic Full Fat milk has 0.1g of trans fat, and Arla Organic Low Fat Milk has 0.06g of trans fat.

Does Arla Organic Milk contain Lactose

Arla Organic Milk contains lactose. This is a naturally occurring sugar found in milk. At Arla, we do have a great selection of Lactose free products as well and we now sell Lactose-free Low Fat Organic milk across key retailers in MENA.

Is it true there is a loss of vitamins in UHT milk?
